Collection: Tea Ceremony
Real Japanese matcha tools, chosen by hand in Japan — Takayama whisks from Nara, Mino-yaki bowls, scoops, sifters and caddies. Everything here is what someone who actually makes matcha would buy, which is a shorter list than most shops suggest.
Four things make a bowl of matcha at home: a whisk, a wide bowl, a scoop and a sifter. Of the four, the whisk is the one that decides whether it works at all — a cheap, machine-split chasen cannot lift the fine foam matcha is supposed to have, and it sheds its tines within months. That is why I start there and why I do not sell a cheap one.
If you are beginning, the starter set is three pieces and the complete set is five. If you would rather read first, Matcha at Home is my full guide, and the best matcha whisk for beginners covers the one decision that matters.
The Japanese names are the ones the makers use, and each has an article of its own: the whisk is a chasen, the bowl a chawan, the scoop a chashaku, the sifter a furui, the caddy for thin tea a natsume, and the ceramic dome the whisk is reshaped on a kusenaoshi. That is the whole vocabulary. Nothing else is required to make a bowl of tea at home.
Everything ships from Tokyo. Ceramics are double-boxed by hand. Import duties, if any, are paid on delivery.

Tomari (とまり) is an old word for a mooring — the place a boat ties up for the night. A bowl of tea is meant to be the same: a few minutes to put the day down. You do not need to know the rules to begin.
Who chose this
I choose everything here by hand, in Japan. I practice tea rather than simply selling the tools for it — I am not a tea master and I do not claim to be. I am a practitioner, which mostly means I have ruined enough bad whisks to know what a good one feels like in the first second of holding it.
Nothing is drop-shipped and nothing passes through a third warehouse. I pack each order in Tokyo and post it from Japan, ceramics double-boxed by hand. If something arrives broken, write within 7 days with photographs of the piece and the box, and I send a replacement or a refund; there is nothing to post back unless I ask. Who writes and chooses all this, and the longer version of why this shop exists.
